Activities

Our Activity Department achieves to nurture the spirit of each resident while enhancing their Quality of Life.  With the use of a wide variety of activities each week, we strive to meet the physical, mental and psychosocial needs of each resident.  Live entertainment, social games and time spent outdoors are among the favorite activities our resident enjoy partaking in. With the use of the facility van, we are able to take our residents on outings, scenic rides and to various community events.  We encourage you to schedule a tour.  We would welcome the opportunity to explain our program in greater detail. 

Dietary

At Hetzel Care Center, proper diets consisting of nutritious and tasty foods are one of the most important parts of our residents’ daily lives.  Upon admission, we establish a personalized meal plan by discussing with the resident eating habits and taking into account the physician’s prescribed diet. We avoid dishes a resident may not eat, and provide for their preferences.  Under the direction of our Registered Dietician and our Certified Dietary Manger, snacks and meals are prepared daily, and served waitress style in the cheerful atmosphere of our comfortable dining room.  Nutritious snacks and beverages are available 24 hours a day and nutritional counseling is provided when needed for therapeutic diets.

Environmental Services

The Maintenance Department at Hetzel Care Center works hard to ensure our building complies with all state and federal codes, and is committed to maintaining a safe, attractive and clean environment.  We are available for routine repairs and emergency services.  Our Housekeeping Staff clean resident rooms daily and keep common areas clean and comfortable, which allows for a pleasant living environment.  Hetzel Care Center provides laundry services as well.  There are always clean linens available and we offer personal laundry services.

Nursing

Hetzel Care Center’s Nursing Department provides person-directed, individualized care to all of our residents.  We have a staff of skilled, dedicated and compassionate RN’s, LPN’s, CMA’s and CNA’s, who focus on providing high caliber attention to meet the physical and emotional needs of those entrusted to our care.  Nurses at Hetzel Care Center are in frequent contact with physicians and family members to provide a team approach to caring for our residents.

We focus on pain management programs for all residents to help them be as comfortable as possible.  We provide medication management as well as treat skin breakdown and wounds.  To promote the highest level of functional ability, we incorporate restorative ambulation and individualized exercise programs into each resident’s care plan. 

In conjunction with the Dietary Department, we help individualize nutritious meals and snacks and assist residents in this area to regain or maintain their nutritional health. 

We strongly encourage residents and family members to actively participate in directing the plan of care with desired goals to make the resident’s stay here the best it can be.

Social Services

Our Social Services Department plays a major role in providing residents with the highest practical level of physical, mental and psychosocial well-being to enhance his/her quality of life.  Our Social Worker will work with residents and his/her family by identifying each resident’s psychosocial, mental and emotional needs, along with providing services to meet those individual needs.  The Social Services Department fosters a climate which ensures policies and routines that enable each resident to maximize his/her dignity and independence within the facility.

Admissions

Our Social Worker will provide a smooth transition for your family during the admission process. We will provide your family with a facility tour, complete pre-admission assessments on all potential residents, and answer any questions your family or loved one has.

Discharges

Our Social Worker advocates for a discharge that will enhance the resident’s well-being and safety outside of the facility.  This includes providing home health services and resident support systems for residents who are ready to be discharged home or alternative placement.

Rehabilitation / Therapy Services

Licensed professionals, who are experienced in addressing the various needs of each resident and customizing care to meet those needs, are available up to 7-days a week if your physician orders any of the following:

• Physical Therapy: Physical Therapists and Assistants provide treatment for a wide variety of orthopedic and neurological conditions ranging from therapeutic exercises to specific treatment modalities and comprehensive rehabilitation programs.  Our highly trained therapists treat conditions such as:
  • Joint replacements
  • Fractures
  • Musculoskeletal dysfunction
  • Pain
  • Stroke
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Amputations
  • Unstable gait
  • Sprains/strains

• Occupational Therapy:  Occupational Therapists and Assistants provide treatment for a variety of upper extremity problems, as well as addressing the needs of activities of daily living, such as bathing and dressing.  Our highly trained therapists and assistants are used to assist the resident in areas including:
  • Independence in activities of daily living
  • Correct posture and seating
  • Cognition and memory changes
  • Need for adaptive equipment
  • Energy conservation techniques
  • Home safety assessments
  • Splinting

• Speech-Language Pathology: Speech Language Pathologists address problems with oral communication, as well as feeding and swallowing concerns.  Speech-Language Pathologists address many conditions including:
  • Disorders of speech and hearing
  • Problems related to swallowing and eating
  • Early cognitive deficits
  • Stuttering
  • Need for alternative communication systems

Our therapists will work with you to return you to and/or maintain your highest level of functioning.  When appropriate, our goal is to return you home as quickly and safely as possible.
